With Eddie Hearn looking to stage the rematch between Andy Ruiz, Jr. and Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia, boxing's talking heads are scrambling to draw comparisons to other big fights that took place in odd locations.
From Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman in Kinshasa, Zaire, to Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios in Macau, boxing has literally traveled the world and shows no sign of stopping.
On this episode of Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, boxing historian Patrick Connor teams up with Compubox operator and fellow history-phile Aris Pina to remember some big and significant fights that took place in weird locations.

Incredibly, despite solid media coverage even as an amateur, Pernell Whitaker was overlooked relative to his ability and accomplishments throughout his career. It really wasn't until later on, after he was forced to retire as his body broke down, that he got the love and attention he deserved from the start.
Now that Whitaker is gone, it's forcing boxing fans and pundits to reexamine how great he was.
On this episode of Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, boxing historian Patrick Connor and Compubox operator/fellow fight history-phile Aris Pina team up to remember the life and career of Pernell Whitaker.

Manny Pacquiao didn't exactly "turn back the clock" to defeat Keith Thurman.
Pacquiao did, however, rise to the occasion to save everyone from an otherwise useless FoxSports Pay-Per-View, and defeating Thurman at this stage in his career is impressive any way you slice it.
On this episode of Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, Patrick Connor and Brin-Jonathan Butler break down Pacquiao's win, his future and where Keith Thurman goes from here. And some more too.

Being that this is boxing, it's often best to simply focus on the fighters themselves -- their performances in the ring, that is -- and that's it. But sometimes officials prevent us by doing that by being some of the worst human beings on the planet.
That might be a slight exaggeration, but it surely feels that way during the fight.
On this episode of Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, boxing historian Patrick Connor joins up with CompuBox operater and fellow fight history fan Aris Pina in remembering some of the worst performances by referees in boxing history.

Being an enthusiastic fan of boxing means becoming emotionallly involved, and therefore vulnerable in some ways. When the fighters and figures we love pass on, it stings.
Heavyweight title challenger Bert Cooper was famous for his connection to Joe Frazier, and his tendency to emulate Joe's style and tenacity. Judge and official Harold Lederman was an HBO staple for decades, his unintentionally hilarious catchphrases endearing him to even the most cynical fans.
On this episode of Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, boxing historian Patrick Connor is joined by CompuBox operator and fellow history-phile Aris Pina in remembering these two men and the paths they walked.
