Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin is a fight a few years in the making, and a truly worthwhile one at that. So it makes sense that it would and should be given extra coverage. And isn't that what we're here for?
However, as always history figures in to recent and upcoming fistic events, and Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio loves that stuff.
As Srisaket Sor Rungvisai emphatically deflated the legend of Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez with a nasty knockout, albeit possibly temporarily, Compubox operator Aris Pina and writer/historian Patrick Connor remember the near-mythical little guys through fight history.

Between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin and last week's #SuperFly card, boxing fans had had it made in the last week or so. The over-saturation of the recent Mayweather-McGregor mockery stole all the attention from the boxing that mattered, unfortunately, but it won't keep dedicated fans from recognizing what's important.
We've lusted after this Canelo-Golovkin pairing for a while now, and the middleweight clash has all the potential in the world. All that's left now is to sit back and enjoy -- after listening to this episode!
But wait! There's more: we would be awful people if we didn't sing the praises of Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, Roman Gonzalez, Naoya Inoue, Antonio Nieves, Juan Francisco Estrada and Carlos Cuadras. They all contributed to a fine HBO card last weekend and it needs to be said.
Join author/filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler and boxing historian Patrick Connor as they run this all down this week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio.

Many fight fans and pundits have called for more dedication to the lighter weight classes among the TV Networks and fight honchos. This weekend on HBO, they're getting what they asked for as 115-pound fighters from Nicaragua, Thailand, Japan, the U.S. and Mexico are all featured.
A rematch between Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez headlines the card, but clashes between Naoya Inoue and Antonio Nieves, and Carlos Cuadras and Juan Francisco Estrada, truly make this a hardcore fan's card.
This week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler joins boxing historian and site founder Patrick Connor to preview it all. There may even be a visit from a special guest.

Floyd Mayweather proved he's a better boxer than Conor McGregor, a guy who never fought a professional fight before. We can all rest easy now.
Every single time boxing endures on of these mega-events, fans collectively get the big fight hangover. This period of exhaustion caused by the over-stimulation of Mayweather-McGregor EVERYTHING means nobody seems to be able to get a grasp on what in the hell we all just saw.
That's what Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio is for. This week author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler and fight historian Patrick Connor give their honest takes on what may or may not have been a fishy money-grab. But also on the menu: the #MayMac undercard, Miguel Cotto's win over Yoshihiro Kamegai, the upcoming SuperFly card and more.

Look. This is weird. Who thought #MayMac would actually be a thing? We didn't, but we were wrong, because it is upon us.
Fair Warning: If you're looking for a cheery, optimistic preview of Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor, you've come to the wrong place. No matter the outcome, this is money-grabbing exploitation at its finest, as one of the greatest fighters of the last 20 years fights someone making their professional debut in boxing. Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio will call that out.
This could get ugly.
It seems there aren't enough good things to say about Terence Crawford, however. Crawford stopped Julius Indongo with a brutal body shot on ESPN last weekend, reigniting a pound-for-pound debate. He's really good, but how good? We'll suss that out.

At 29-years-old at undefeated at 31-0, there's no question super lightweight Terence "Bud" Crawford is one of the best fighters in the world. But short of getting the big name fights he calls for, he still has to take an intriguing fight every so often. And this weekend on ESPN Crawford squares off against Namibian Julius Indongo, also unbeaten.
Apart from showcasing one of boxing's best talents, Crawford-Indongo also unifies all four major alphabet belts at 140 pounds -- a feat never before accomplished in the division.
Join author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler and boxing historian Patrick Connor as they preview Crawford-Indongo and its co-feature, Oleksandr Gvozdyk vs Craig Baker. But also likely on the agenda on Knuckles and Gloves Radio this week, sadly, is the upcoming sideshow between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, and the Paulie Malignaggi sparring controversy.

Wladimir Klitschko, Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley have all recently retired. All three have been important to boxing's recent history to slightly varying degrees. Sadly the odds are at least one of them will return to the ring at some point, but for now we celebrate their retirement.
Retirement in the real world is strange enough, but in boxing the word "retirement" takes on several different meanings and connotations. What are some of the most famous retirements? Who retired far too many times? Who retired far too late? Who never did?
This week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, Compubox operator Aris Pina and boxing historian Patrick Connor will give proper attention to the careers of Klitschko, Marquez and Bradley, and discuss some of the more famous instances of retiring in boxing history.

As temperatures heat up, we hope the action in boxing does too. This year has been kind to us, though, so we'll try to be a little kind in our discussion.
Last weekend, Mikey Garcia outclassed Adrien Broner over the distance on Showtime, while Jermall Charlo dispatched a clearly handicapped Jorge Sebastian Heiland. This Friday, again on Showtime, unbeaten Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields continues her professional march by stepping in with Nikki Adler, also undefeated.
Also on Friday, welterweight Mauricio Herrera steps in with Jesus Soto Karass on ESPN. The sports network again shows boxing on Saturday, however, when it airs the card featuring Vasyl Lomachenko vs Miguel Marriaga.
Basically there's a little something for everyone on this episode of Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, and Brin-Jonathan Butler and Patrick Connor will guide you through it.

We've had heaps of good fights in 2017. Thankfully there really isn't much to truly complain about when it comes to what we've gotten thus far, so a goofball fight here and there won't hurt us. Because that's what Mikey Garcia vs Adrien Broner is - a goofball fight.
These kinds of fights are the ones that can be difficult to predict because of all the variables -- inactivity, weight issues, etc -- and they tend to be safe fights to just sit back and enjoy. Despite Broner constantly throwing off karmic balance with his antics that beg for poetic justice, Garcia-Broner should simply be a fun fight to watch unfold, whatever happens.
This week on KGB Radio, author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler again teams up with boxing historian Patrick Connor to talk Garcia-Broner, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin updates, a quick Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev II update, a discussion about Brin's new longform piece on light heavyweight heavyweight James Scott for SB Nation, and more.

We were hit with a series of fight cards last weekend, accounting for the quantity. The quality was more lacking than many hoped, but still very worthwhile.
On HBO Boxing After Dark, Miguel Berchelt defeated Takashi Miura in defending his super featherweight belt, confirming his class in the division, and Sullivan Barrera and Jezreel Corrales also notched wins on the broadcast. Omar Figueroa Jr. smashed Robert Guerrero on Premier Boxing Champions' latest FOX offering, and Chris Eubank, Jr. out-maneuvered Arthur Abraham to confirm his appearance in the upcoming World Boxing Super Series tournament.
This week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, author/filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler and boxing historian Patrick Connor run it all down for you.
