The ability to vote fighters into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, N.Y. should be viewed as a great honor and taken seriously. Absent some other system, this is the way fighters of yesteryear have been honored since the early 1990s. This year's ballot wasn't an easy one to parse through, and many fighters seem deserving.
From Erik Morales, Vitali Klitschko, and Winky Wright to Santos Laciar, Julian Jackson and Ricky Hatton, many fighters are in the running with legitimate arguments for getting in.
On this week's episode of Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, Compubox operator joins fellow boxing historian and site/show founder Patrick Connor in dissecting the ballots they mailed in and the reasoning behind their picks.

It seems that in boxing, 2017 is the year that just keeps on giving. There's no end in sight, and this weekend provides us with more boxing than we can shake a stick at.
First, George Groves takes on Jamie Cox in a super middleweight continuation of the World Boxing Super Series on ITV. Then Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares fight in separate bouts on FOX. And just about immediately after that, a Showtime tripleheader features Jermell Charlo vs Erickson Lubin, Erislandy Lara vs Terrell Gausha and Jarrett Hurd vs Austin Trout. And it all kicks off with an ESPN card on Friday the 13th.

Boxing in the 1980s was consumed by mostly just a handful of things, like Muhammad Ali's exit, Larry Holmes' reign and decline, Mike Tyson's entrance, the "Fabulous Four," and a smattering of lesser things. Often completely forgotten in all of the madness of the decade were fighters trying to be the next Ali or Holmes -- the lost heavyweights of the 80s.
This week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, Compubox operator Aris Pina again teams up with fellow boxing historian Patrick Connor to remember the less-popular big men of the 80s.

It happens several times a year, it seems, but boxing lost another great fighter in Jake LaMotta. At 95-years-old, LaMotta was the oldest living former champion and a living legend. The sport will miss him greatly.
Last weekend we were treated to an exciting fight at middleweight -- LaMotta's old stomping grounds -- between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin.
Both matters need to be addressed, and this week resident historians Aris Pina and Patrick Connor hop onto Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio's boxing history edition once more to...address them.

Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin was a middleweight showdown roughly two years in the making. While it was exciting and tense, the result was confusing and disappointing enough that it took the focus away from much of anything good about the fight.
This week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler joins boxing historian Patrick Connor in dissecting the controversial draw verdict, the odd scoring and everything in between.
Where do the fighters go from here? Would a rematch be any good? Listen in and find out!

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin is a fight a few years in the making, and a truly worthwhile one at that. So it makes sense that it would and should be given extra coverage. And isn't that what we're here for?
However, as always history figures in to recent and upcoming fistic events, and Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio loves that stuff.
As Srisaket Sor Rungvisai emphatically deflated the legend of Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez with a nasty knockout, albeit possibly temporarily, Compubox operator Aris Pina and writer/historian Patrick Connor remember the near-mythical little guys through fight history.

Between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin and last week's #SuperFly card, boxing fans had had it made in the last week or so. The over-saturation of the recent Mayweather-McGregor mockery stole all the attention from the boxing that mattered, unfortunately, but it won't keep dedicated fans from recognizing what's important.
We've lusted after this Canelo-Golovkin pairing for a while now, and the middleweight clash has all the potential in the world. All that's left now is to sit back and enjoy -- after listening to this episode!
But wait! There's more: we would be awful people if we didn't sing the praises of Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, Roman Gonzalez, Naoya Inoue, Antonio Nieves, Juan Francisco Estrada and Carlos Cuadras. They all contributed to a fine HBO card last weekend and it needs to be said.
Join author/filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler and boxing historian Patrick Connor as they run this all down this week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio.

Many fight fans and pundits have called for more dedication to the lighter weight classes among the TV Networks and fight honchos. This weekend on HBO, they're getting what they asked for as 115-pound fighters from Nicaragua, Thailand, Japan, the U.S. and Mexico are all featured.
A rematch between Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez headlines the card, but clashes between Naoya Inoue and Antonio Nieves, and Carlos Cuadras and Juan Francisco Estrada, truly make this a hardcore fan's card.
This week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler joins boxing historian and site founder Patrick Connor to preview it all. There may even be a visit from a special guest.

Floyd Mayweather proved he's a better boxer than Conor McGregor, a guy who never fought a professional fight before. We can all rest easy now.
Every single time boxing endures on of these mega-events, fans collectively get the big fight hangover. This period of exhaustion caused by the over-stimulation of Mayweather-McGregor EVERYTHING means nobody seems to be able to get a grasp on what in the hell we all just saw.
That's what Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio is for. This week author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler and fight historian Patrick Connor give their honest takes on what may or may not have been a fishy money-grab. But also on the menu: the #MayMac undercard, Miguel Cotto's win over Yoshihiro Kamegai, the upcoming SuperFly card and more.

Look. This is weird. Who thought #MayMac would actually be a thing? We didn't, but we were wrong, because it is upon us.
Fair Warning: If you're looking for a cheery, optimistic preview of Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor, you've come to the wrong place. No matter the outcome, this is money-grabbing exploitation at its finest, as one of the greatest fighters of the last 20 years fights someone making their professional debut in boxing. Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio will call that out.
This could get ugly.
It seems there aren't enough good things to say about Terence Crawford, however. Crawford stopped Julius Indongo with a brutal body shot on ESPN last weekend, reigniting a pound-for-pound debate. He's really good, but how good? We'll suss that out.
