There can be no doubt that Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko is a massive event in addition to being important to the heavyweight division. While the actual heavyweight title isn't involved, this is the next best thing, or the closest thing to it.
At 90,000 tickets sold, the fight has broken a number of sales and attendance records. It is a huge event in the U.K. Most mainstream press in the U.S. has failed to pick up on the story, however.
Nonetheless, Compubox operator Aris Pina and writer/historian Patrick Connor return this week to Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio to discuss Joshua-Klitschko and the biggest, most popular and most important heavyweight championship fights in boxing history.

A record-setting 90,000 seats have been sold for the heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko. It's a fight that has been embraced by the general public in the U.K., even if it hasn't gotten the attention it deserves in the U.S. Joshua-Klitschko is a significant heavyweight bout with a potential for excitement, and it carries actual implications in the division.
This week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, the duo of Brin-Jonathan Butler and Patrick Connor will explore the ins and outs of this popular fight and attempt to tackle the more complex questions.

We're heading right into the middle of the year, and already 2017 has been rather kind to boxing fans. There has been no shortage of exciting fights and many have even been meaninigful. Over the next month or two, things get interesting in boxing and we should get more fireworks.
This weekend on HBO, one of boxing's most talented and flashy performers, Vasyl Lomachenko, takes on a worthy contender in Jason Sosa. It's not the five star bout everyone might hope, but it's a very respectable scrap, and one that offers Lomachenko the opportunity to make a huge statement.
In the HBO openers, Oleksandr Usyk and Oleksandr Gvozdyk make appearances against Michael Hunter and Yunieski Gonzalez, respetively. It's an all-Ukraine feature, and it should be worthy.
This week on KGB Radio, Brin-Jonathan Butler and Patrick Connor preview this weekend's HBO card, but also talk the state of boxing in the U.K., Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko and more.

Every so often in boxing we're shown that the invincible are beatable, and we see how easy it is for heroes to be knocked off their perches. Last weekend both Gennady Golovkin and Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez lost a little bit of their shine on HBO Pay-Per-View against Daniel Jacobs and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, respectively.
Golovkin, who narrowly beat Jacobs despite clearly having difficulty, was knocked down a peg in public opinion following a less-than-brutish performance. Whether or not he should be is a different story, but when the unexpected happens...
In the co-feature, Sor Rungvisai managed to push around and out-muscle Gonzalez, the former pound-for-pound king. It was a close fight, but one many felt Gonzalez won.
This week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler and boxing writer/historian Patrick Connor team up to recap the PPV and more.

There's plenty of boxing on tap to keep boxing fans and media busy, but the first order of business this weekend is the middleweight skirmish between Gennady Golovkin vs Daniel Jacobs.
For some, this fight represents the first time Golovin has faced a puncher skilled enough to meet the Kazakh's fire with fire of his own. But others believe Jacobs will wind up simply becoming another victim of Golovkin's ferocity. Though it may not be deserving of Pay-Per-View, it's a competitive fight on paper and will almost certainly end early.
It may be worth spending a few clams to catch Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez in action, however, as he takes on Srisaket Sor Rungvisai on the PPV undercard.
But also on the menu for Brin-Jonathan Butler and Patrick Connor is the awful knockout David Lemieux scored on Curtis Stevens last weekend.

It's always a sad day when we say goodbye to beloved members of the fight community. Storied trainer, manager and promoter Lou Duva recently passed away, and though it still stings, we prefer to remember what Duva contributed to boxing. Join us in reliving some classic Duva moments.
In addition, this week's episide of Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio delves into puncher vs. puncher matchups in boxing history. David Lemieux and Curtis Stevens, both punchers, will meet on HBO this weekend. It just makes sense.
As always, Compubox operator Aris Pina and writer/historian Patrick Connor are the ones guiding you through these nerdy discussions.

With two straight weekends of middleweight fights coming up, Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio recalls when one of boxing's most historied divisions seemed to be cursed. It's not that we would wish anything bad on David Lemieux or Curtis Stevens -- or Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs, for that matter. But many great fighters, and even some who were simply notable, met early ends as middleweights.
The tales of Harry Greb and Stanley Ketchel are fairly well-known in boxing circles, but what about the tales of Marcel Cerdan, Charles "Kid" McCoy, Tiger Flowers and more?
This week, KGB Radio has Compubox operator Aris Pina and writer/historian Patrick Connor to walk you through it all.

As much as we say we hate them, it's difficult to turn away from a spectacle. In a boxing ring they're even more addicting. Certain fighters know how to bring the train wreck right into the ring, and one way of doing it is to set aside inhibitions and allow baser instinct to take over. In other words, certain fighters forget the rules and aim on causing pain however they can.
From George "Elbows" McFadden on to Sandy Saddler, and then from Fritzie Zivic back on to Harry Greb, this week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio we discuss some of the dirtiest fighters ever to set foot in a boxing ring.
Join Compubox operator Aris Pina and writer/historian Patrick Connor in reliving boxing history!

The heavyweight division is an easy one to map and discuss, both historically and in its current state. We've already talked about the biggest punchers ever at heavyweight and troubled heavyweights, but in this week's episode the topic is "Worst Heavyweight Title Challengers Ever."
Some funny decisions have been made when it comes to granting random characters a shot at the shiniest crown in all of sports, both recently and in decades past. And Compubox operator Aris Pina and Patrick Connor of Knuckles and Gloves, The Fight City and more run down their list.

Many have asked, and finally the best boxing history podcast is back!
This week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, Compubox Operator Aris Pina and writer/historian Patrick Connor once again team up to discuss boxing history and tell stories, both old and new.
Last weekend we saw a fun rematch between Leo Santa Cruz and Carl Frampton on Showtime, and those two appear headed for a third fight. Would another entertaining affair place the Santa Cruz-Frampton trilogy among Tony Zale vs Rocky Graziano, Marco Antonio Barrera vs Erik Morales, Riddick Bowe vs Evander Holyfield and more? What are your favorite trilogies and rubbermatches?
